R122-MKII Overview
Introduced in 2002, the Royer R122-MKII is the first phantom powered ribbon microphone available. Used already on tons of recordings from Ray Charles to Michael McDonald, Arturo Sandoval to Jennifer Lopez. Preferred by legendary engineers like Bruce Swedien (Michael Jackson’s Thriller). Winner of a technical Grammy and many other prestigious awards (TEC, EQ Blue Ribbon and Pro Audio Review). The R122 is a typical ribbon with a bi-directional pickup pattern (8) with a frequency response range of 30Hz -15kHz and a Max SPL of 135dB. It is mostly used for overheads, vocals, piano, acoustics, strings and classical music. For applications with higher SPL’s, consider the Royer R121.
