SF-24 Overview
The SF-24 is a phantom-powered version of the renowned SF-12 stereo ribbon microphone, combining its exceptional audio performance, precise stereo imaging, and separation with an exclusive active electronics system. With an output of -38 dB—14 dB more sensitive than the non-powered SF-12—it offers condenser-like sensitivity while maintaining the rich, natural character of a ribbon mic. Its custom-designed FET circuitry ensures ultra-quiet operation, with self-noise below 18 dB.
Like the SF-12, the SF-24 features two matched ribbon microphones stacked in a coincident pair, each angled 45 degrees from center in the classic Blumlein configuration. Its magnet/pole piece structure delivers a smooth, uniform frequency response without harsh peaks or dips, while the 1.8-micron ribbons capture transients with exceptional accuracy. The microphone maintains its excellent frequency response regardless of sound angle, with minimal off-axis coloration.
For connectivity, the SF-24 includes an extension cable with a Y adapter that splits into two labeled 3-pin male XLR connectors—“Upper” and “Lower”—corresponding to the microphone’s upper and lower capsules when held vertically.
